With the recent explosion in the volume and types of data collected in medicine, there is an opportunity for a paradigm shift that moves health systems from entities that react to disease exacerbations as they happen to proactive institutions equipped to target clinical events before they occur.
The Center for Digital Health’s PA Cure Twitter Study has two primary aims:
- To assess whether Twitter provides valid estimates of the prevalence of major health conditions that drive morbidity and mortality across Pennsylvania and its communities.
- To investigate the feasibility of using Twitter data to predict dynamic health events, such as foodborne illness and influenza.
To accomplish these aims, we are developing and utilizing new tools to map health.
